Beans

Today we are going to learn how to make beans.

Step one: Buy a can of beans.

Step two: Consume said beans in any manner or fashion that you fancy.

P.S. Did you know that it is entirely plausible to survive 6 months on nothing more than beans? I'm living testament to that fact.

P.S.S. You might be thinking that you need a can opener for a can of beans, but anything works just fine. I once opened a can with glass from a broken beer bottle.

P.S.S.S Who are you kidding just order a pizza. Cooking isn't for everyone.

French's Crunchy Onion Chicken

This week we are going to be making some crunchy onion chicken. This dish is especially simple to prepare and make while at the same time being delicious.

Ingredients for this recipe: 4 Servings
2 cups of French's Original or Fried Onions
2tbsp. flour
1 egg, beaten
4 boneless chicken breasts
salt/pepper (optional)
Prep Time: 5 Minutes
Cook time: 20 Minutes

Directions:
Preheat oven to 400F
1. In a bowl, add 2 cups of French's Fried Onion and crush them thoroughly.
2. Add 2 tbsp. of flour to the crushed onions and mix evenly. Also add salt/pepper to season to taste here if you would like to.
3. In a separate bowl, crack open an egg and beat it.
4. With the chicken, if frozen thaw over night, dip into the egg then into the bowl with onions. Make sure to press the onions into the chicken so that it sticks.
5. Put the chicken into the oven for 20 minutes. (Covering the tray with foil keeps chicken moist)
Using foil makes clean-up a breeze, alternatively, use non-stick cooking sheet for best results.
Serve chicken while hot and it goes best with salad and rice.
Enjoy.

Chicken Curry

This week's recipe is chicken curry. A friend made this for me last week, and it was so good I had to share it. Don't let the long list of ingredients intimidate you, it is actually really easy to make.
I recommend having a specific cutting board in your kitchen designated for meat to prevent any illness from raw chicken. Here are some cheap cutting boards from Amazon for beef, chicken and veggies.

What you will need for this recipe:
2 chicken breasts
2 yellow onions
2 oz shitake mushrooms (roughly 8 mushrooms)
2 scallions
4 garlic cloves
14.5 ounces diced tomatoes
1/4 cup chicken stock
5 tablespoons coconut milk
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon salt
2 teaspoons curry powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Directions:

  1. Cut chicken into cubes
  2. Dice onions and scallions
  3. Finely chop mushrooms
  4. Finely mince garlic
  5. Melt butter in a pan on medium high heat
  6. Saute onions and mushrooms for 3 minutes
  7. Add salt and garlic and saute for another minute
  8. Add chicken, curry powder, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, cumin, cinnamon, black pepper, and cayenne, and saute for 5 minutes
  9. Add tomotoes and chicken stock, stirring occasionally for 8 minutes
  10. Add coconut milk and simmer for 5 minutes
  11. Stir in scallions and serve (serves 2)

This dish is best served over rice. I prefer Jasmine rice, but cook your favorite rice according to the instructions on the bag. Although this recipe has many ingredients, most of them are just spices, so it is easier than it seems at first glance.

Enjoy!

Tasty Gnocchi with Peas and Pancetta

This week's recipe features gnocchi with pancetta and peas in a Gorgonzola cheese sauce. This recipe is not only quick and easy, but delicious. I recommend using a nonstick pan for easy cleanup. Below is a link for a great pan from Amazon that is nonstick and dishwasher safe. We are all college students running this blog, and every time someone buys from Amazon through a link on our blog, we get a percentage of the sale. So please buy through our link if you like anything on this page so we can buy more food for recipes.

Prep and cook time: 10 minutes

What you will need:

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 bag Trader Joe's Gnocchi al Gorgonzola (or any 16 oz bag of frozen gnocchi with cheese from your local grocery store).
8 oz frozen peas
1 nonstick pan

  • Put olive oil in pan and place over medium heat until pan is hot (about 1 minute).
  • Add peas and pancetta and cook 4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add all of the gnocchi and reduce heat to medium low.
  • Cook until gnocchi is warm all the way through and stir often so as not to burn the cheese (about 5 minutes).
  • Spoon into bowls and serve (serves 2)

There you have it. A quick and delicious recipe that can be prepared by even the most inexperienced cook. You are sure to impress with this simple dish.

Turkey Sandwhich on Rye

Turkey Sandwich on Rye

For this week, we are going to explore how to do a Turkey Sandwich on Rye, a delicious yet simple recipe that everyone and anyone can enjoy. If you are on the go, have nothing to do, or just feel really bored, this is the perfect food for all occasions. This recipe is dedicated for a serving of one person but is easy to replicate for multiple people. First off, you are going to need these:

1 kitchen knife

And these ingredients:

2 slices of rye bread

6 slices of turkey

3 tablespoons of mayonnaise

And heres for the recipe!

  1. Apply the mayonnaise to one side of each slice of bread
  2. Put the slices of turkey in between the two slices of bread
  3. Cut the sandwich with the knife in any direction of your choice (diagonally, vertically, or if you're feeling like a rebel, horizontally.)
Enjoy!
P.S. Not cutting the sandwich results in a bad product, and at the end of things is just something unethical to do. ALWAYS cut your sandwich in two. But not in four parts. It wouldn't be a sandwich then. Just a mess.
